In the area of fatigue behavior, fatigue strength and fracture mechanics, we develop damage and fracture mechanical prediction models for the service life of steel and composite structures. The models capture the formation and growth of cracks and allow the stress-oriented design and optimization of components and construction details under operating loads. We convert the prediction models into easy-to-use rules to enable planning engineers to economically measure or recalculate existing structures, including higher prediction reliability.
